After a trip around the walled garden at Mottisfont, I think I have a little understanding of tulipomania.

But I am not sure if these are actually black or dark purple.

I think they call them black tulips, but the do look a deep purple to me. A really rich colour.

Love these tulips and I used to hav some like them mixed with pink ones in my front garden.Sadly when we redid the walkway a couple of years ago they were dug up. Mine were probably very very dark purple but they certainly looked black from a distance. Thanks for reminding me, maybe this fall Ill try to find some bulbs and replant
