This morning, as planned, Ray and I went to the Michaelmas Fair at the almshouses at St Cross.
Amongst the varied stalls and contributions was a pitch on the grass in the Master's Garden by Falcon High, ready for a flying display.
As we went to get a cup of coffee we saw this owl on the roof of the Hundred Men's Hall and its handler standing gazing skyward. I stopped to talk and at that moment the owl disappeared over the other side of the roof. The handler quickly disappeared in the same direction.
We learned later that it had been re-captured and also heard the story of one of their birds who went awol and was finally traced in a small village in Belgium killing all the pigeons. It was decided to leave it there with a local handler as it was deemed to be too expensive to bring it back.
Thank you very much everyone for the supportive comments on my yesterday's photos of Jinks, who also loved the taste of freedom. I'll do a better reply soon.
Trying out a new 18-105mm lens, Peter and surprised it did so well with this - the photo is heavily cropped of course.
