addicted x 3

I am addicted
to my Sony a6000
to photography
to purple

Recently walking much distance has become, shall we say, tedious - because of osteo arthritis. I already have a range of boring strategies - no sugar, TENS machine, exercises etc etc - but something more was needed.

So I borrowed Ray's rambling pole to try and now I have bought my own - purple, of course.

I had worked out how to simultaneously wield a camera and a pole but when we had a walk at Lee on Solent yesterday, the sea breezes presented yet another challenge!

Very sensible.. thought for a bit that Ray had a nice purple pole..

@julzmaioro
No his is boring black!

Good to see you are not going to let it stop you. Best of luck

@sugarmuser

Sharon, thank you so much. I have had years of managing bipolar disorder and I'm treating the osteoarthritis the same way!

Lovely image you seem well sorted for a morning walk, just a point of interest you may find it better to use two hiking poles,
Using two poles enables you to use your whole body while walking
and facilitates better posture which helps people with balance problems, its just a thought Hazel, although you would not be able to hold your hat on in the wind, lol:)

@pcoulson

Peter, I am sure that's very good advice and thank you (and I will bear it in mind) - but how would I take any photos then?!
July 21st, 2019
@quietpurplehaze Valid point Hazel the only engineering solution I could think of is to fit it on the top of the pole like a mono pod, lol:)
July 21st, 2019
well done Hazel - I am sure you will master the camera with pole - love your attitude and determination
July 21st, 2019
It does look rather breezy. Maybe use one pole and the camera on a monopod as Peter suggests.

@pcoulson

Maybe a miner’s helmet with the camera on it like a light?!!

Sorry to hear about your walking problem Hazel. I am in need of a knee replacement now and walking has become very difficult and painful but I use my rollater (walker) all the time now .If I need to use my Canon I sit it on the seat in its bag and my lenses are in a bag under the seat in the basket. I can stop and sit and change lenses take photos etc. quite easily. Saves the effort of carrying heavy kit whilst using a walking stick.

I hope you're feeling the benefits of all the exercise! You certainly look in good shape!

@wendyfrost

Wendy, and I am sorry to hear about your knee. I think I shall try using one pole for a while as I have only just got it but I’ll bear in mind what you say. ( I had never imagined being excited about getting a purple walking pole!)

@will_wooderson

William, that’s a comment guaranteed to cheer me up, thank you!

I am loving your purple walking pole! Our boy has some too - he is also addicted to purple! We just purchased him a posh leather armchair and he selected the colour from the swatches......purple of course! Good for you to have built strategies for managing the OA. Proud of you for not giving up and staying home, but working out how to still do things. Very impressed.

Good to see up close the camera that works so hard taking your people photos. These light weight poles are so handy...just that little bit of help is invaluable. I have two like this that you can alter the length. I don’t use them but have them just in case one day.

Good to multi task !! Love your purple walking stick
July 21st, 2019
Multi tasking as only a woman can! Arthritis is no fun I’m sure, but great to see your determination to persevere!

Sorry to hear about your osteo arthritis; must be very painful.
You look very relaxed on this photo.

This is a great photo Hazel, sorry to hear about your arthritis, that is painful... glad to see that you are walking though!
July 21st, 2019
Great photo of you, Hazel...It sounds like the walking pole is doing its job in helping you out.

Cool picture.
July 21st, 2019
Of course your pole had to be purple! A lovely image of you.

Bless you for not letting it get you down and being positive in life you are a special lady fav:)

@stevepam

😍. Thank you very much for your vote of confidence!
July 22nd, 2019
Love the purple pole! I think I may need to get one too as walking is getting difficult with my knees. Keep us updated on how you get on with it.

@pamknowler

Pam, it's definitely easier for walking. I got a pole, rather than a walking stick as a stick has a handle which would be a bit in the way when wielding the camera as well. Funny isn't it that I don't mind using the pole away from our area but have yet to use it locally as I don't want people coming up and asking what's the matter.

Lovely purple....I'm rather fond of it too.
I have a couple of friends who use two walking poles so I recognise some of the suggestions above.
Mr B is finding a difference in his knee osteoarthritis since taking organic turmeric (with black pepper and ginger.) Just sharing 🙂
July 22nd, 2019
@quietpurplehaze you just need to say you have started Norwegian walking with poles as it’s good for the core! I heard that this week on tv! Lol!
July 22nd, 2019
Two walking sticks works better for me. They spread the balance and help keep the posture up.
July 23rd, 2019
@shutterbug49

How do you use the camera?
July 23rd, 2019
@sarah19

Thanks for the share. I take root ginger infusions. I did research turmeric but found contra indications regarding bipolar disorder. I might look at it again/ run it past my GP. Can you give details of the supplement please? Good for Mr B!

love your purple pole. good to see you. Keep it up Hazel, you are a true inspiration

@casablanca

A purple leather armchair sounds ace and I can tell that your boy has impeccable taste. Thank you so much for kind and encouraging words!

@ninaganci

So kind.

@carole_sandford

Oh yes, hadn't really thought of it as multi tasking - makes it seem special, thanks!

@sarah19

Sarah, can you say the name of the supplement Mr B is using, please?
