learning to walk by quietpurplehaze

learning to walk

This time two weeks ago, I was not long back from theatre with my new hip.

Two mornings later, I was shown how to walk with crutches on the level, upstairs and downstairs and Ray fetched me home.

Yesterday the consultant surgeon changed the dressing, pronounced me healed, no stitches as he closes the wound with glue.

Today the first of 3 outpatient physio sessions, learning how to walk 'properly' - I'm just about to discard one crutch.

No wonder I'm smiling!
Hello Hazel, you are looking great! So pleased to hear that your surgery went well and that the new hip is behaving too. Onwards and upwards.

A pain free face Hazel! Well done! Interesting re the stitches as Harry had his hip op in July but he had 24 stitches! Went in from the back as it’s the new way but still stitches. He’s walking completely without pain or stiffness, I’m sure you will be the same when you get going!

A lovely, warm photo of you Hazel. Pain free

It’s amazing how quickly normality is resumed following a THR! Patients usually have very little pain too, mainly because they were in so much pain beforehand. Sounds like you are doing well!

@happypat

24 stitches is freaking me out but has obviously worked out for Harry! I actually got Ray to take a shot of my wound (not for public consumption but enables me to see it) with his phone as the surgeon changed the dressing - estimate 6 or 7 ins long. He also told us he goes in between the muscle rather than cut through.

@quietpurplehaze Harry say they were clips…not sure about between the muscle, Harry was interested in your glue idea. We also have a photo of Harrys wound but also not for public consumption!

@happypat

The surgeon also mentioned keyhole surgery. I shall ask more about that on our final meeting. Only take in so much at once. I am amazed how different I feel!

Lovely to see you back Hazel. I hope your recovery continues to go well. They do amazing things with with glue these days. Graham had internal stitches when his knee was replaced, but the main incision was glued together
October 20th, 2021
Glue, hope this doesn't mean you have become a stuck up lady. Glad all is going well so you get a FAV.
