the old and the new

The Royal Garrison Church, Old Portsmouth, was built around 1212 as a hospice to shelter pilgrims. In 1941 the nave was struck by a fire bomb which destroyed the roof. The church still stands roofless amongst more modern buildings but the chancel (on the right) survived intact.
There are some beautiful stained glass windows inside but it's only open certain days, staffed by volunteers.
It looks rather beautiful , nice history too

I suppose it was a blessing that even part survived, character, history & beauty captured & appreciated.

Amazing historical facts, and a great shot, Hazel! The only things that old around here are Indian mounds. :)
