a red flower

A neighbour showed us this flower as we walked past his garden with Jinks this morning.

We have no idea of its name and I wondered if anybody does?

Google images tells me it's a 'flower'!

It's very unusual. I tried Google for one of my flower shots today and it told me it was "Spring", at least it identified this as a flower :)

I'm pretty sure it's a mexican shell flower (Tigridia pavonia). Maybe all those boring taxonomy classes were not a waste of time after all. Its gorgeous btw.

Well thank you. Put the name in + image on Google and it certainly is! Our neighbour said it was tri+'something' because of having 3 different sorts of petals and 3 of each sort. I'll tell him.
