I'm a little confused by the definition of bokeh. Here is it just the points of light of flickering candles across the pews or is it the blurred effect of the pews as well?
methinks it's both. it's the soft background resulting from a very shallow dof. it's just that commonly, the shapes come out as round. aces on this, hazel.
All of it I think, surely it doesn't matter what causes the lovely patches of soft light in any form. I never knew what bokeh was until I joined 365 but I think we all go whoopee when we capture it!
Thank you for feedback. I had always thought it had to be focused on the points of light but in researching bokeh a bit for the challenge I realised that is not the complete definitiin. So thanks to your week long challenge I have learned something!
It's a nice shot. I think a characteristic of bokeh is the blurred circles of light (or reflected light) which are a result of doing the other bits (dof) well.
I also researched it online and the article you found seems interesting, thanks. I think to a certain extent it could be open to interpretation. Always something to learm etc on 365!
Thank you very much everyone for your comments, appreciative and helpful. I had a lovely time this morning around the newly opened Christmas decorations at Mottisfont Abbey practising bokeh.
For me, it's just the bokeh is just the oval shapes from the lights, but I may be wrong. No expert, me! Love this image - it's beautiful and very poignant.
It has been an informative week - in many ways. Not least from viewing others work - especially those who I haven't followed in the past. This is lovely.
Thank you Jackie and it is indeed. (But I think the emphasis nearly always tends to be on the points of light.)
Pat, thanks for helpful comments.

Yes, I always thought the same but it does seem that 'bokeh blur' is also recognised. Thank you for your comment.
Thank you! I was very pleased to just 'see' this shot in the cathedral which turned out more or less (even a bit better!) than I envisaged.
Ferry, thank you.
I agree, having now done a bit of googling.
