Get-Pushed Challenge 431
My get pushed partner suggested that I set up a simple still life, maybe a glass bottle or vase with a flower or grasses in it, and a solid object such as a figurine or fruit, shell or rock. Place these near a window in your home and through the week notice how the light changes and take photographs of them at different times of day, just whenever you get a chance. Set your camera to black and white to simplify matters. At the end of the week select one or two of your favorites.
First challenge was that although I set the camera up to do b&w, it didn't. So the photos are post processed to change them from color to b&w. The second challenge was the table I set the still life on. I realized it was low, below the window, but since I had started I kept on like I had started.
@kali66 This is the first photo for your challenge. I thank you for giving me this challenge. As noted in the photo comment, it pointed out some things I would not have thought of.
Good start! I actually think converting to black and white after shooting in color is an advantage. You learn what colors work best in black and white that way. Having seen those flowers in color the other day and knowing that they are a purple/maroon color it doesn't surprise me that they're the stand-out in this picture. The contrast of the petal tips is made for the contrast of black and white. Nice shot.
Oh, I think your final result is lovely. The details on the flower petals are so crisp and pretty, and the vertical branches on the other two pieces mirror the lines of the flower stems. Very nicely done, Kathy. Fav
@kali66 Thank you again for the challenge. Yes, the camera was on RAW, but I set it on Creative Style Black & White rather than the Picture Effects setting. I guess I'm not familiary with the the former settings and will have to investigate them a bit more. I thought since the camera allowed that setting while in RAW format (it doesn't allow the Picture Effects setting while in RAW) that it would shoot it in b&w. I guess actually that's ok, because I don't lose the color version.
