very nice macro shot, kathy. aces! i used to play with these beetles, even the big ugly scary looking ones. now i can't stand them and if they land on my person, they'd be sure to be dead!
@summerfield Play with beetles. Oh my. They give me the creeps. Never even wanted a scarab bracelet. Thank you Vikki. @kaylynn2150 I appreciate your comments Kaylynn. Thank you. @jamibann Thank you Issi. @30pics4jackiesdiamond@kjarn Japanese beetles are supposed to top out at 1/2 inch long, although this one appeared to be a bit bigger. Perhaps it was the angle. The sunflower on the right is probably about 9-10 inches wide (tip of petal to tip of petal (diameter)). The sunflower the beetle is on is slightly smaller but part of the same plant. @wakelys Thanks Susan. Like I said above the beetle looked bigger than it should have been. @ziggy77 Thank you Jo. @grammyn Thank you Katy. I did want it to look as big as it seemed to be when I saw it. I think the background is the result of a cloudless sky shooting away from the sun beginning to set. It didn't have much color in it. @jacqbb Thank you Jacqueline. I will give this challenge the good old college try. Don't think I've done that before or it's been a long time. @taffy Yes I think you're right Taffy. I always thought beetles were a bit prehistoric looking. @cdcook48 Thank you Chris. @craftymeg Thank you Margaret. Probably not quite as big as it looks here and looked to me last night when I took the photo. @olivetreeann Thank you Ann. Yes, I agree with you about eating up my plants. I just had two trees planted in the front yard 1-1/2 weeks ago. One is a purple plum and there are many lacy leaves. I don't see the beetles on the tree but I saw two I in the mulch below as I was watering this morning. I hit them hard with the spray from the hose, and pushed them into the puddle I was making at the base of the trunk. Hopefully they are dead. @pyrrhula Thank you Ferry.
@brillomick Maybe that's what it is. I couldn't really see it well as the flowers are over a foot taller than me. The Japanese beetles are out too here.
