Get Pushed Challenge #553 Take 2
My Get Pushed partner challenged me to take a photo that uses rim lighting. I studied the way I set up the last shot and read more about rim lighting and decided to try it again. This time with a mug of feathers. I think this has more of the elements usually thought of as rim lighting, although still not as good as I would have liked.
@dkbarnett Another attempt at rim lighting. I think this one is better but still not as good as I wanted it to be. Perhaps I need to shoot in total darkness except for the light behind. Maybe another time and another week. Thanks again for this learning experience.
I like this image. I like how it highlights the details on the edges. I am know expert, but I think rim light can be in sunlight if it is caught just right. Check out Shook’s image. https://365project.org/shookchung/random-muse/2023-03-08 See the light on the edge of the lamp post and on some of the twigs. I also notice what I think of as rim lighting in sunset shots where something is almost but not quite silhouetted.
Yes- you've got some nice rim lighting going on here- particularly the feather on the upper left where just the edge of the feather is showing. Well done!
Very dramatic light. I think I would set the reflector on the side of the lens so as to bring out the object from the blackness. Just a little bit, maybe I'm wrong, but I'd try.
@shutterbug49 Thank you. I see what you mean Debbie about Shook's photo but like you, I think of rim lighting as sort of a thin halo around a silhouetted shape. @Dawn Thank you Dawn. @olivetreeann Thank you Ann.I appreciate your feedback. @onewing Thank you for your comments and for taking the extra time to view on the black. @tosee Thank you very much Tom. @mcsiegle Thank you Mary for your comments and feedback. @30pics4jackiesdiamond Thank you for the thumbs up Jackie. The reason I was concerned about the lighting was because it was my challenge. I'm still not entirely satisfied with my results but will put it in time out for awhile. @bkbinthecity Thanks so much Brian. @jamibann Thank you Issi. @wakelys Thank you Sue. I appreciate, too, that you took the extra time to view on black. @photographycrazy Thank you. @casablanca Thank you very much. @will_wooderson I do like that darkness for some reason. Thank you Will. @pusspup Thank you Wylie. @kjarn Thanks Kathy. @craftymeg Thank you Meg. And thanks for viewing on the black too. @haskar Thank you for the feedback Hannah. Hope I remember it when I take this lighting challenge out of time out in the future. @pyrrhula Thank you Ferry. @joemuli Thanks Joey.
