Thank you. @thewatersphotos I knew better, but wasn't expecting the freeze that night. The frozen water expanded and popped out the bottom of the rain gauge. @jamibann Yes, stupid me. I knew better. @aikiuser Yes it is. It wasn't old, just neglected. @farmreporter Thank you Wendy. I'm guessing because of the way it popped out it might have been assembled with a seam there.
