When we encountered the King and his pride under some trees a couple days after witnessing their kill, I had to admit he cleaned up pretty good! He didn't look quite as ferocious with his clean whiskers but that cold stare still gave me the shivers.
It is estimated there are less than 50,000 lions in the world today. Most can be found in sub-Saharan east and southern Africa or in a zoo. The average lifespan is about 13 years. I felt so fortunately to be able to observe these magnificent creatures in their natural surroundings.
