America's First Theater by redy4et

America's First Theater

The Dock Street Theater, built in 1736, was the first building in America dedicated to solely to theatrical performances. A few years later, fire destroyed it along with many other buildings in Charleston's French Quarter. It was rebuilt and the wrought iron balcony and sandstone columns were added around 1835.

Distinctive wrought iron railings, gates and window grills can be seen on most of the historic homes and public buildings throughout the city. Most feature black wrought iron detailing but some, like this theater, used green as the accent color.
Beautiful details

Wonderful detail. I like the muted colors and the why you cropped/framed the photo.

On the days I so wish I had something different to photograph for some reason I think about places like this. It's just this sort of picture that I'd like to be able to take! Nicely captured.

@panthora Hi Osia! Thanks for all your comments on my Charleston series. I didn't see a play at the theater but I did hear the Canterbury Boys Choir (from the UK) at St. Phillips's Church and that was fabulous!
