The Royal Barge by redy4et

The Royal Barge

The high point of the Burmese pagoda festival is the arrival of the replica of the royal barge, designed as a golden hintha bird. The elaborate barge is towed by several boats of men rowing in unison with one leg. The barge carries four images of Buddha and travels from village to village along the shores of Inle Lake where pilgrims gather to pay their respects. The Buddha images then reside at the main monastery in each village for the night.
This is so impressive - what an angle you had! What is the little ball hanging from the beak? It looks like you captured it as it was falling.

The art is so incredible - it must have taken a long time to produce this boat. We were wondering - it is officially Burma again?

@stownsend Myanmar is the official name of the country which used to be known as Burma. Many, but not all, of the people are Burmese. However I believe there are more than twenty other groups or tribes.
