Last week I spent a day on Capitol Hill in meetings with several California legislators. Afterwards I walked the grounds, looking for a good view of the Capitol. Currently, the dome of the 150-year-old icon is completely surrounded with scaffolding so workers can repair more than1,300 cracks caused by age and weather. They say the $60 million project is expected to be completed before the presidential inauguration in 2017. It seems to me this building is constantly under construction. There was scaffolding the last time I visited in 2010 too.
