The Heron I've been observing for a couple weeks left the palm tree that I believe holds it's nest and flew to a bare-branched tree closer to the water where he stood for almost 10 minutes. That gave me plenty of time to take dozens of shots, including this one where he's eyeing me with attitude. With no predators to worry about, he and his mate can take turns calmly guarding the nest, preening their feathers and hunting for fish. A woman on the path below with a lens pointed at them is of next to no concern. This has been a great opportunity for me to practice wildlife shots and to learn more about these magnificent birds.

What a look you're getting! And WHAT an opportunity! I'll need to check my social calendar, but perhaps I can be free around 9-10 Monday morning... Shall I call?
Another great shot. Fav. They don't seem to be too concerned with people compared to other birds. They have let me approach quite close on several occasions in different locales. Just out of curiosity, was the wind blowing strongly on that day?
