Old Growth Palms by redy4et

Old Growth Palms

Date Palms were planted in the Coachella Valley back in the 1890s and today produce more than 40 million pounds a year or 15 percent of the world date production. Two popular snacks in our local food culture are date shakes and bacon-wrapped dates. I thought these massive palms were so beautiful. If you look closely, you can see a hint of snow on the mountains from last week’s storm.
Wow! We have date palms, too, but they shed their fronds.

Great shot of these old palms. We have date palms too, but they look totally different.

Beautiful shot. I have seen palm trees like these in Malta but dates are not harvested as far as I know - probably not enough trees to make it worthwhile.
