Preening

Caught this heron preening its feathers at the top of a 40-foot palm tree. During breeding season, the birds gather in colonies called "heronries" to build their stick nests high off the ground. This shot was taken in a saltwater coastal habitat in Southern California.

Great capture. They just find some out of the way trees around here and start laying out sticks for the nest.
