The ancient temples of Bagan are a sight to behold! From the 11th to the 13th centuries, Burmese rulers and wealthy subjects constructed 10,000 stupas, temples and monasteries in the 40-square mile capital of the Pagan Empire, now known as Bagan.
Most of the monuments did not survive the test of time and fell into ruin or disrepair. In the 20th century, some 400 earthquakes, recorded between 1904 and 1975, damaged or destroyed a good portion of the remaining monuments. Still, today, there are more than 2200 pagodas and temples peppering the landscape, many of which have been partially restored.
So beautiful, and wonderfully captured! Funny, I don't remember water around there.....Did you do the balloon ride....it was one of the highlights of our trip....FAV!!
