After breakfast I headed to campus while shadows were still long. I got some good shots by the library again, but this woodpecker “Pileated woodpecker” (“Hylatomus pileatus,” formerly “Dryocopus pileatus”) got my attention “aurally” and has to get the posting today. I was on my back in the leaves to get this one. (I nearly left a lens in the woods but that's another story!) I like the blue sky!

@oneinodd Thanks, Lisa. I was really pleased with the colors and how this one was framed, even if it meant *not* posting a couple other images from yesterday! But I remain true to one-a-day *from* the day!
@oneinodd I see the obvious comparison! I almost added a last line to the description — when we were younger my wife would look at a late afternoon sky with a rich, rich blue and say, “I’d like a top that color”!
@elspeth47 Thanks, Elizabeth. Should I congratulate you or offer condolences on having them in your neighborhood? This was a handsome bird, but noisy. Does it eventually become “white noise” you no longer hear?
