Thinking about Japan and the Japanese people… by rhoing

Thinking about Japan and the Japanese people…

For various purposes, I wrote letters of recommendation for a very-special recent graduate of our program in economics (and poli sci: a double-major). She applied for, and secured, a position in Japan this year as an assistant language teacher. As a thank you, she gave Clare & me some Japanese candies in an origami box before her departure. She emailed that she is safe on the western side of Honshu and we are grateful for that. Our thoughts and prayers are still with all those feeling the consequences of the recent tsunami…
Very thought provoking.. Thanks for sharing

I was in the international aisle of our supermarket over the weekend and I caught sight of the section of food from Japan. Of course it made me think about the people affected by the earthquake/tsunami. I am happy to hear your former student is okay. Very nice shot.

@loriromp Thank you, Lori! Her safety is, indeed, a blessing, at least for now. She's 200km away and in a bit of a quandary: the American Embassy has recommended evacuation out to 80 km but the Japanese government doesn't seem to be entirely forthcoming with information that would help her decide what people in her city should do...
