Uninsured driver and parked vehicle… by rhoing

Uninsured driver and parked vehicle…

I had a nice flower-in-a-vase-on-the-mantel photo, but the events of the day took a turn for the worse after that.

Clare went to her weekly Cursillo meeting in Murphysboro, parked across the street from the church, went into the rectory, then the sound came, “C-R-A-S-H”! Her not-quite-a-year old vehicle is undriveable and the driver who crashed into her *parked* car is uninsured. The other driver's policy lapsed about a month ago (violating state law for all the good that does us), so we're out our deductible of half-a-grand and aligning schedules indefinitely to share one car…

The reflection off the side of the car is the red-brick church; the rectory lies behind the black, iron fence. Really, God; here?

Update: $7,242.20 is the insurance company's assessment.

Update after all repairs: A $6,500 supplement was submitted by the body shop. All told, more than $14,000 of damage…

damn, such a nightmare, hope you sort it out soon

oh that really puts you in a bind...so they violated state law and you still need to fix your car...so unfair

oh no! I hope Clare is ok.

@cohare She’s angry and frustrated — and doesn’t like driving my car, but nobody does! — but her car was parked and she wasn’t in the vehicle. So the other driver had a stationary “target”…

@michelleyoung Alas, you're exactly right, Michelle: this is going to be a nightmare. Sigh.
@angievega Yep. No-insurance was probably a money-saver, so I don't expect to see our $500 deductible as the no-insurance fine is $2K.

Nice photo, but what a terrible story! A huge inconvenience and expense, but at least you can be grateful that nobody was injured.

Isn't there some kind of uninsured motorists fund? Maybe you can get some money from that.

@jbritt Our own policy will pay, less our $500 deductible. We could pursue the other driver in civil court, but our time and legal fees would probably be more than the $500 we'd be pursuing. We've had close calls with deer at night, so we're trying to look at this as a sort of "urban deer" incident...

oh geez... so very sorry to hear and see this!!! I completely understand!!! At least she wasn't in the vehicle tho when it was hit!!! That seriously sucks tho about the uninsured jerk!!!

Oh no! That will be such a pain for you both. I hope it gets fixed quickly.

Ouch, that hurts.

sorry to hear/see you've experienced a bit of bad luck there - hope you get it worked out soon

@harley84 @bella_ss @digitalrn @sitiodown We got the car back yesterday: 55 days and $14,000+ later.
