Spike-ball

I have no idea what this is, but I liked the spikey “structure” and the colors. (And I don’t know how to “tag” this!)

I took several frames killing time until a monarch or viceroy butterfly would return to another flower by the lake … but of course it never did. Guess I’ll have to go back to the lake and try again!

» ID update. This is “Cephalanthus occidentalis” of the family Rubiaceae, “variously called the coffee family, madder family, or bedstraw family” according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubiaceae Further, “The group contains many commonly known plants, including the economically important coffee (“Coffea”), quinine (“Cinchona”), and gambier (“Uncaria”), the medicinal ipecacuanha (“Carapichea ipecacuanha”), and the horticulturally valuable madder (“Rubia”), west Indian jasmine (“Ixora”), partridgeberry (“Mitchella”), “Morinda,” “Gardenia” and “Pentas” [see http://365project.org/rhoing/365/2013-02-11 ].”

Not sure what that is either! But it is nice to look at. Love the light/DOF in this. I take a lot of pics of things waiting for the "bug" to come back. I have one up from two days ago....in Album 2 I think....abstract of lake with cable reflection....no dragonfly. He was off having fun.

@digitalrn Thank you, Rick! You saw exactly the reasons I chose it yesterday: color and background.
@cohare Thank you, Christine! With the examples of so many of your wonderful images, pushing away-from-center now comes almost naturally. Thanks for teaching me that!
@angievega I always appreciate your comments, Angie! Thank you. Update: because of vacations, none of our egglings survived this year. :–(
@espyetta On the other hand, there are occasional show-offs; the zebra swallowtail I posted a few days ago flitted around our butterfly bush for more than a half-hour. Haven't been able to get a single hummingbird or dragonfly or…
@sparkleplenty1 Thank you so much, Joyce! Lots of friendly greens, a little white, dashes of red & yellow and some blues at the corners made this very appealing to me! And I'm always a sucker for a strong DOF effect!

@bella_ss Thanks, Sheralee. I guess it was a consolation prize for not snapping the butterfly I wanted!
