This was another no-brainer when I saw it download.
I am determined to capture a bumblebee in flight and I know it’s just a matter of patience out in the garden and pressing the [Delete] button a whole lot of times!
While I was trying to get one of the many bumblebees this afternoon, this little male butterfly (about an inch long ~ 2½ cm) swooped in. Took several images, but this was the “keeper.”

I love how the whole shot went lavender tones. Very cool! These butterflies are so tiny, they are hard to capture and you did a great job!
Did you ever see my bumblebee in flight shot?
@sparkleplenty1 Aww, thank you so much, Joyce! I am pleased with it. Today it's back to trying for a pollen-laden bumblebee in flight. I don't ask for much, right? ;)
@cmc1200 Thanks, Caryn! Not only was I fortunate to get this little guy in focus, he was kind enough to give me a bluish flower and a blurred bluish background!
@dishaparekh176 Thank you, Disha. I was there and ready, but there is still an element of luck or good fortune!
@jillmstruss Thank you, Jill. Your sulfur close-up is amazing. Unfortunately, this is about as "close" as I could get to this butterfly. I had my 55-250 max'ed out at 250mm and if I were any closer than this the lens couldn't have focused. How did you get so close for your sulfur post?
@harley84@espyetta Thank you so very much, MaryBeth! My bumblebee quest remains, and I have been warned. For her PP lady bug shot — http://365project.org/harley84/365/2012-06-06 — Kat posted #399 out of 403! Four-hundred three! Gulp. Not sure I have *that* much patience.
@espyetta Try to find one hovering and returning to the same spot, like I did. I tried to shoot some that same day zooming over holly bushes at 90 mph. That was not going to happen. I got a few but not sharp and the bee did not stand out as the bushes were behind it...it was too busy. Busy bee. ha i got the one I showed you behind the gym at our school....he would hover there, then I'd bug him, he zip off and then return. So, I had a lot of chances to get him and it did take about 50 to 100 maybe...
@espyetta Oh, yeah; there are frequent exclamations of "Oh, no" around here. In class one time I said, "Never mind" (Roseanne Roseannadanna). A student asked me about it after class and then understood something that was exchanged between her parents at home!
@rhoing He was unusually still and let me get real close with my 50mm lens - a lot of time they flutter off, although this time he seemed to buysy to bother! I also cropped the photo to get the focus on his eye. I took MANY shots - that one was the clearest. Thanks again for the lovely compliment :)
@kdrinkie@nyusha@rikkieg Thank you so much. I will take credit for being ready, but sometimes there is a significant amount of luck in being at optimal angles!
@jaboney Aww, thanks for the fav, Mike! In contrast to my post 4 days ago, this guy fits right in with his surroundings!
@kdei Thank you, Kim! Some days it's tough to choose just one … and some days the choosing is no contest at all!
Did you ever see my bumblebee in flight shot?
It took a lot of shots to get this one, yes. so get ready! But I like how he appears "stood up" because he was hovering..
@betsyg It is, indeed! We must be flexible! Thanks for your kind comments, Betsy!
@kamb Thank you, Karen! The stripy feeler is what made the photo for me, too!
@cmc1200 Thanks, Caryn! Not only was I fortunate to get this little guy in focus, he was kind enough to give me a bluish flower and a blurred bluish background!

@myautofocuslife Thank you, Livia!
@moonshadow Thank you so much for your fav! I really appreciate that!
@tinamalik Thanks, Tina!

@espyetta Thanks for spotting this, MaryBeth! I've never had a PP shot last this long!
@jillmstruss Wow! I've been in the garden this evening and everything is too jittery to tolerate me getting so close with my 18-55!
@michelleyoung I am humbled, Michelle; thank you for faving!
@annbo Thanks so much, Ann! And thank you for the fav!
@denisedaly Thank you, Denise!
@angeliquenordal Thanks, Angelique! And thank you for the fav!
