On the lake at 5 a.m. with Roland in his Maas double – http://www.maasboats.com/double.htm
Row a couple hours then off to breakfast with our Saturday group till 9 a.m.
Prepare the car to carry two rowing shells and row with Clare the rest of the morning.
I am appreciating the opportunity this summer to “catalog” the various residents and visitors to our back yard garden. In this case, however, I need help again! Skippers are very common and I haven’t been able to match this image with any online galleries or my couple of field guides.
Help, Carolyn?
Retired economics professor (“dismal scientist”). Married 40+ years to the love of my life; we have two grown daughters, both married, two granddaughters and a...
I love how you caught it opened winged...not sure I've seen a skipper in this pose before! I like the out of focus orange flowers or what have you in the back.....
@rhoing You had it posted like it is presently from the beginning though, right? You aren't saying you changed it since I saw it, are you? I do love the dof it creates and adds some color...
@cjwhite Carolyn...you know all the butterflies! I am not seeing any butterflies here! What is up? I did go to this little park down the street and they had Skippers...that is all I am seeing and very few of them either....weird.
@espyetta Oh, I see why you asked the follow-up question! This is the only image I posted. When I was editing, when the orange blob was partially cropped, it was distracting on the border. So undo and this is the only image I posted. Good, critical reading and thinking there, MaryBeth! You caught me being ambiguous!
@espyetta I'm my department's grammar and writing stickler, so I try to make my posts and comments sufficiently clear. Not always successful, of course!
@cjwhite Forgot the thank you here, though I edited the description to thank you there! I do think you nailed it, Carolyn! I've become so accustomed to the "side view," I was surprised to get this shot! (I can't keep dorsal and ventral straight yet, though I know that the dorsal fin on a fish is the usually sharp, main fin on top so maybe what I have here is a "dorsal view"!) Thank you for your kind comments and helping us butterfly newbies identify what we capture!
@chrismarfil Thanks so much, Chris! I don't think this is terribly colorful, but given that this guy's mostly "neutral" colors, s/he does have a nice array of those neutrals!
@psychographer Thanks, Lisa. I am trying to use 365 as a journaling device and a year from now I'll probably say, what time did I *get up* to be actually *on the lake* at 5 a.m. That's just nuts, right? I wish I'd had a camera in the shell with me because it was pretty cool stroking away from the dock and looking at the sunrise's bright-pink sky!
@michelleyoung Confession: I always thought butterflies were more brightly colored and the dark and neutral critters were moths. I have learned much here!
@digitalrn Even in summer, life can be hectic, but that's not entirely a bad thing! Thank you as always for stopping by, Rick!
