Bet no one can find “Ghostly Amberwing” in any of their field guides! ;)
I know — I’ve seemingly gone from flowers being my “go-to” images when I’m stuck, to butterflies-and-dragonflies.
Since we haven’t had significant rain for weeks, I spent quite a bit of time watering and weeding in the garden today. So there were a “few” dragonfly images. But the backlighting gives this guy an unusual glow or halo, plus he looks like he’s smiling. But seemingly wearing goggles for safety, of course!

@sparkleplenty1@espyetta Thanks for the FAVs from two of my mostest faithfulest visitors and commenters! Perhaps I should re-title this as "The Smiling Dragonfly"!
@rhoing How about "Smile..It makes people wonder what you've been up to." Hee hee And you are welcome! I love seeing your photos..no matter what they are. But of course, I LOVE the buggies!
@jesperani Thank you for the FAV, Jennifer! But caricature, too! That's it! That's the sort of sense or feeling I had every time I flipped through yesterday's images and saw this one! Caricature: thank you!
@aprilmilani Thanks very much, April. A subsequent comment described the image as a caricature; I think that's an apt description of how this turned out!
@paulavdmerwe Thanks so much, Paula! I was fortunate to get so much detail with such a "flat" focus at 250mm!
@russianblue Feast-or-famine, Kass? Sometimes it's like that. Just when we think we have figured out critters' habits, they change it up on us! Perhaps if we only knew more?
@psychographer The lighting is why I shot from this angle. I didn't exactly get what I was going for, but this turned out well, which was fortunate because what I wanted didn't work out at all! Thanks for FAVing!
@betsyg A dragonfly for a cartoon drawing! Great interpretation, Betsy! (See @ladyjane's comment, too!) Thanks so much for FAVing!
@digitalrn Thanks for smiling back, Rick! (And thanks for that chuckle!)
@lyoungs1023 The smile was definitely part of what appealed here! Other comments refer to "cartoon style" and caricature. There is definitely something about the "expression" on this d'fly's "face"!
Its wonderful that my wacky photo could be an inspiration to you.. Thank you for your lovely words recently, I cannot exprerss how much they mean to me. I am sticking around ;)
@annbo Bet you never thought you'd put a cute face on a dragonfly! Thanks for stopping and commenting, Ann!
