“House rules” definitely apply

Or “Being silly with silly”—
When Clare, her brothers and their mom gather at Mom’s house every summer, it’s for a rousing game of croquet. Not that this is a game that anyone else would recognize as “croquet,” mind you! As our niece, Elizabeth, said, she wouldn’t know how to play “real” croquet correctly!

So what happens when a chemical engineer, a planetary physicist and a woodworker/home rehab’er gather with two croquet sets? A very — uh — “unusual” course always results. Inverted-bicycles, PVC tubing and various gardening tools can be used as either wickets or obstacles!

Note. Neither Mom nor the brothers is messy; the garden hose above was as much a part of the end of this year’s course as are the hedge trimmers!

Finally, I couldn’t post just a “normal” image, hence the selective coloring.

For the curious, Elizabeth “won”, though we all had loads of fun!

P.S. Another not-a-flower, though I had a back-up from Edie’s garden!
Looks like masses o fun :) very novel :)

Very creative wickets, Thom! Looks more challenging. I used to love playing croquet at my parents' house as a kid. We had a very uneven backyard that had a steep slope down to the driveway. My father was one that always wanted to make things challenging for us, so he'd place the wicket near the end at such an angle that no one could ever get through it without having to crawl under the car a couple of times to retrieve the ball after it rolled down the driveway. Fun times! I like your use of sc!

Ha!!! You guys sound like a fun bunch!! This shot is a definite Fav for me!!! You've inspired me to drag our croquet set (and possibly our hedge clippers) out and make up our own version as well!! My kids would think this was a riot!!!

@sparkleplenty1 Thanks for sharing some of your own croquet memories, Joyce!

@chauncygirl Thanks for a fav, Heidi! It is a fun bunch! I won the "in-law" lottery by marrying into the family I did. Have fun with your kids. Heck, put your feet up and let them do set-up! ;)
