Almost-ventral Common Buckeye

Allllllmost fulfilling one “quest” with this almost-ventral view of a Common Buckeye in the garden — http://365project.org/rhoing/365/2012-08-16
Not quite a 90° perspective to the folded-up wings, but pretty close. Good thing; otherwise it would have been [yet] another Great Spangled Fritillary. Besides, I like the pastel background on this one and the curled-up proboscis…

Having just returned from a family reunion and visiting old family graves, today my mom would have been 76. (She passed away in 1991 at 54.)

I like the softness in this shot.

The holiest of all holidays are those
Kept by ourselves in silence and apart;
The secret anniversaries of the heart,
When the full river of feeling overflows;

Thank you for the link to the article Thom, such a wonderful read... and so very true.. I think I need to sit down with my two hobbits and tell them about their ancestors.. It took me many years to gather the information for myself and it needs to be shared.

Another stunning shot
