Vanessa to the rescue! by rhoing

Vanessa to the rescue!

Vanessa cardui, that is, the scientific name of the Painted Lady butterfly. Another busy, low-frame-count day. There was a mantid on the front porch “ceiling” this evening, but it was impossible for me to photograph. (Too dark without flash and — well, recall that I suck at flash photography — too stark with flash.) I tried photographing a porcelain dish we have on the mantel; it was a gift from a former graduate student. But again, the lighting situation was one I could not handle. So once again — sigh — it’s a Painted Lady, or Vanessa, if you’re on a first-name basis with her.

On a butterfly bush, but not ours; this was taken at my favorite campus garden…
