Interference by rhoing

Interference

This reminds me of a high school physics project. I was in a group with classmate Bob McMasters, who had, what I thought at the time was, a fancy camera. He took photographs of the ripples in a pan of water so we could analyze the interference patterns. That’s the origin of the title for today’s post.

Now looking at it in more detail, I realize there are three distinct sources of the interference patterns from a rowing shell: the bow of the shell pushing water away in an inverted-V pattern; the more-or-less circular ripples from the oars on each side; and a fainter V-shape from the stern of the shell pulling through the water. I took a few shots on the lake and 2 shots off the lake all day today. Once again, not many from which to choose…

Love the symmetry of this shot. The ripples are perfect.

You can't beat a bit of physics I've always said. Looks like a fine day for being out on the water

A neat perspective to see where you've been

ooo...I love the pov and the blue calm water. nice how you showed just the tip of your rig

I love the symetry in this one

Ha! I was just about to right exactly what Karen wrote - but I do love the symmetry, that's what caught my eye. Plus it's a beautiful scene.
