I had a wonderful conversation with “Rich,” whose job it is to oversee the care of everything in the greenhouses and the “collections” of plants that are scattered in a few places on campus. He’s been doing this work for 21 years and he guessed that 60% of what’s here was brought here from his greenhouse at home as cuttings or “divisions” or plants he has acquired while traveling off-campus.
What you see here — lots of cacti! — is about a fourth of what I’ll have to work with this winter. :-)

@ruthmouch Thanks, Ruth! Your comment about the lines is quite insightful: designing a large climate-controlled space begs for "efficiency" so — once prompted — we can't be surprised by all the geometric patterns!
