Passion tendril by rhoing

Passion tendril

I went to the greenhouse today, but not looking for colors. I figured if I were going to post B&W, then I should be concentrating on depth-of-field and “structure(s)” rather than brilliant colors. Result: a tendril, for “climbing” I assume, on a passion plant (family Passifloraceae).

Side note. Was “injured” for the first time in the greenhouse. I wasn’t sufficiently careful when moving a leaf or frond … in the cactus house!

Species uncertain. Genus page at PhytoImages, http://phytoimages.siu.edu/cgi-bin/dol/dol_terminal.pl?taxon_name=Passiflora&rank=genus

Taken at the SIUC Plant Biology Greenhouse, http://www.plantbiology.siu.edu/facilities/plant-biology-facilities/greenhouse/index.php

Passion vines are amazing.

@danette They *are*! Do they thrive outside in your area?

@rhoing Absolutely! Some are perfect for butterflies. While I don't have any at home, the butterfly garden I planted at the elementary school has some.
