Floral abstract

Today was spent reading papers and submitting semester grades. Didn’t pick up my camera until after dinner. Now that I’m learning more about flowers, I went peeking into one of our irises to find its “flower parts”. This is the best I could do on a first try. Same plant as a couple days ago, http://365project.org/rhoing/365/2013-05-11

The iris’ “beard” are trichomes. A crazy close-up at PhytoImages: http://phytoimages.siu.edu/imgs/paraman1/r/Iridaceae_Iris_germanica_66502.html

Genus page at PhytoImages, http://phytoimages.siu.edu/cgi-bin/dol/dol_terminal.pl?taxon_name=Iris&rank=genus
