I'm always astonished by the number of superb butterfly shots you get as I have big, big problems getting them to keep still :o) Just wondering what lens you use? I tend to use my 50mm with a macro filter attached but obviously have to get incredibly close. I gave it a go with my zoom today and was able to get more shots but the focus is a bit off. This is a stunning shot. I love the detail xx
@psychographer This is my first shot with a short lens. In this case, Canon's EFS 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM. I really, really, really like the ultrasonic motor. I wish I'd felt I could afford the 90mm or the new macro lens with image stabilization, but those would have been a lot more money. A *lot* more. :-\ For this image, I was astonished how close this butterfly let me approach. Fortunately, the flower head on this fennel was about shoulder-high so it did not require awkward posture that could have been disruptive. So I was lucky. :)
@allisonraposa Haven't had much of a chance to experiment yet, Allison. My first adjustment is to remember it's a single focal length and turning the ring won't zoom in or out! I am hopeful for super-sharp images when I get the chance to try lots of different kinds of shots. I think I will also try to use it as a portrait lens (1.6 x 60mm = 96mm).
