Gray Hairstreak by rhoing

Gray Hairstreak

Today’s “bug” shots: one lady beetle, a bunch of skippers — all Sachem — and a few shots of this Gray Hairstreak. My field guide says “The abdomen is orange (male) or gray (female),” so I’m guessing this is a male. Although this was taken with the 55–250mm lens, I thought it showed the abdomen, “tails” and fringe of the hind wings quite well.

Confirmed at BAMONA as “Strymon melinus”, or “Gray Hairstreak”; http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/sighting_details/929869
