Dwarf Chenille plant by rhoing

Dwarf Chenille plant

Last year when I did the month-long flash-o-red theme, I realized I needed to look for textures, because that’s what survives gray-scaling.

This is an “Acalypha reptans” plant and this inflorescence is extremely colorful, but also richly textured. A common name is “Chenille plant” (or “Dwarf Chenille” for this particular species); French speakers will likely know how “chenille” translates to [American] English and it will make total sense seeing this flower!

Since this plant had no image in PhytoImages, some recent photos I have taken have been uploaded; see them on PhytoImage’s “Acalypha reptans” species page, http://phytoimages.siu.edu/cgi-bin/dol/dol_terminal.pl?taxon_name=Acalypha_reptans&rank=binomial

I love the chenille plant. They even grow outside here. I was lacking motivation, too, until some great clouds came around.

Very nice in the B/W, and as you said, it really brings out the fine textures

Sorry your motivation was flagging at this point. I hope it is better now. Super texture on this! I know some French, but not how "chenille" translates....

@espyetta Chenille --> "caterpillar"! And obviously a fuzzy one at that! (German was my language of choice in high school and college.)
