Pearl Crescent by rhoing

Pearl Crescent

This is a Pearl Crescent (“Phyciodes tharos” and a “true brushfoot”), but I had a heckuva time trying to convince myself. None of the images I have seen at BAMONA — http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/gallery?stage=adult&species_view=All&species_type=0&family=890&field_sciname_value=Phyciodes+tharos — or BugGuide — http://bugguide.net/node/view/411/bgimage — show a white spot inside a black “circle” toward the margin of the hind wing (upper side).

Confirmed at BAMONA as “Phyciodes tharos” or “Pearl Crescent”; http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/sighting_details/1003448

*Not* taken with a long zoom lens (55-250mm) but a macro lens (EFS f2.8 60mm).

It's a great shot with the matching coloured flower. Perfect timing!
