Small or Yellow anise tree by rhoing

Small or Yellow anise tree

This is “Illicium parviflorum.” What's in the photo is a "young fruit." See a photo of mine from last month, http://phytoimages.siu.edu/imgs/paraman1/r/Illiciaceae_Illicium_parviflorum_93261.html

From Missouri Botanical Garden, http://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/PlantFinder/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?kempercode=e649
“Illicium parviflorum, commonly called yellow anise tree or small anise tree, is an upright, rounded, suckering, evergreen shrub or small tree that grows to 10-15' tall and spreads to 6-10' wide. It is native to moist woods and swamps in central Florida. Shiny, elliptic, olive-green leaves (to 4" long) emit an anise-like aroma when crushed. Insignificant yellow-green flowers (to 1/2" diameter) bloom from the leaf axils in late spring (May-June). Fruit is a star-shaped cluster of follicles. Yellow anise tree is protected in Florida as a threatened species.”

It'll be interesting to find out. I have heard of the plant, but not familiar with it.

@danette Man! I thought of *YOU* posting this, completely confident that you would comment that you see these everywhere!

I had to look it up. This is why: Florida anise occurs in moist wooded ravines and steepheads from the Florida panhandle to southeastern Louisiana.
