ZZ T— Oops; sorry. ‘ZZ Plant’

Scientifically, “Zamioculcas zamiifolia” … hence, “ZZ Plant”!

I was in awe of this new stem. Many plants push out individual *leaves* that are rolled up; for example:

But in this case, an entire *stem* is pushed out with all the leaves rolled around the *stem*!

More & technical info from Missouri Botanical Garden, http://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/PlantFinder/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?kempercode=d179 » “ZZ plant or aroid palm is an aroid family member that is native to dry grassland and forest in Eastern Africa. It is a stemless evergreen plant that typically grows to 3' tall with attractive, pinnately compound leaves rising up from its rhizomes. Each leaf has 6-8 pairs of elliptic, glossy green leaflets (to 6" long). Flowers appear on mature plants. Flower structure consists of a spadix (erect spike of numerous tiny creamy white flowers) encased by a sheath-like green spathe.”

Plants are amazing.

@danette They truly are! There's never a day at the greenhouse when I don't "home in" on something interesting. Right now there isn't a lot of color, so I'm finding my awe-and-wonder in other ways and there's always some plant that says "Look at me! Photograph me!"
