Common Whitetail, *mature* male by rhoing

Common Whitetail, *mature* male

Four days ago I posted a photo of a Common Whitetail with a brown body. The wing pattern and claspers indicate a male; the brown body indicates an immature male. This image shows the same wing pattern and claspers, but a blue body. These features indicate a *mature* male!

I photographed Wednesday's male in our back yard; this guy was photographed in our front yard. I suppose the four-day separation makes all sorts of "null hypotheses" possible!

Confirmed at BugGuide as “Plathemis lydia” or “Common Whitetail”; http://bugguide.net/node/view/1114455
