Object of scorn for many

Several years ago I had a student whose family has a large farm operation and she frequently de-tasseled corn. I remember her saying that it was considered difficult or yukky work, but she didn't mind. (She was always upbeat, positive and cheerful. I suspect it didn't hurt that she's 5'10" or so!) So here's a corn tassel (a “staminate inflorescence”); photo taken outside of Fremont, Ohio.
