The “Varsity Center for the Arts” (as it's now called) is the permanent home for our area's community theater, and beer and wine is sold at their performances, as well as movie screenings and art exhibitions.
Interestingly, our application for a new class of liquor license (to save our non-profit a couple thousand dollars) was not the only one discussed at this meeting.
AMC Theaters (obviously a *for*-profit concern) would like to renovate their older theater in Carbondale with leather seats and install a bar as a part of the renovation. Apparently they have several of these set-ups across the country and it was interesting as a citizen and economist to listen to AMC's presentation and the Board's questions.
