Didn't know what I had here…

… until I saw it on the computer monitor. I just thought it was a spider with a very "bumpy" or textured body. Each of the bumps, though, is a baby that hatched out of the big, white egg sac that "momma" was dragging behind her, with a hitchhiker still on the egg sac. So yes, each of the white spots on the spider is a baby spider: future bug-control in the garden!

I posted this to BugGuide expecting that ID'ing it would be impossible since the mother's body is covered and the all-important eye info is not apparent. But a contributing editor immediately commented, "Wolf spider, Lycosidae — This is the way they carry their babies"; http://bugguide.net/node/view/1236019

I knew it was a Wolf too. Because of the babies on the back. I once years and years ago saw someone step on a wolf spider and then tiny babies ran out from under the foot spreading all
Over. I was like "did I really just SEE that?!"
