Hangin’ out on the water (with a genetics exercise)

Family reunion in Michigan today (Clare's side of our family). It's mostly our generation now — Sigh. Clare's mom and an aunt-and-uncle of Clare's were the only members of that generation, but three more generations were represented. These three kids in kayaks are children of two of Clare's [double-] cousins.* (Two of the kayakers are brother-and-sister.)

And yes, I kayaked; I'm not a total snob about rowing! Indeed it was fun to paddle with my feet out of the kayak and in the water. :)

* “Double-cousins” is a term for first-cousins whose dads married sisters (or whose moms married brothers). As a result, first-cousins have two sets of common grandparents. Here's an explanation, http://genetics.thetech.org/ask-a-geneticist/double-cousins-share-one-quarter-their-dna
“Double-cousins” are as related as half-siblings in terms of their shared DNA.
