‘Mutinus caninus’ [Filler #eleventy-billion … or 26]

I swear I am not making up any of this!
Or “Dog stinkhorn.” In the order “Phallales” and family “Phallaceae.” This particular species was Tom Volk's Fungus of the Month for October 2006: http://botit.botany.wisc.edu/toms_fungi/oct2006.html

From Wikipedia, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutinus_caninus » “Mutinus caninus, commonly known as the dog stinkhorn, is a small thin, phallus-shaped woodland fungus, with a dark tip. It is often found growing in small groups on wood debris, or in leaf litter, during summer and autumn in Europe, Asia, and eastern North America.”

Photographed in a garden in front of our house.
