Low tech … or not?

The motor of my electric sharpener gave up the ghost; it was probably 15–20 years old. I thought I might get another electric, but (a) it really wasn't working very well and (b) it takes up desktop space! So I'm trying this small, "manual" sharpener.

I use a pencil mostly for working Sudoku and KenKen puzzles on newsprint, so I don't really want super-sharp points, but it turns out the really sharp point works well. (I passed on the KUM Masterpiece; it was twice-the-price of this Blackwing.)

A sign of the times--it's mechanical pencils for me!

We've done the same thing in our house. My mom's sharpener went kaput, so she uses the manual one now.

@janeandcharlie I was all mechanical pencils when I was working, but they're too sharp for working puzzles on newsprint. I had Cross pencils, but my favorite was the blue Pentel 7mm https://de2wfhoo6xqi5.cloudfront.net/size/600/b78/dbe/48085f9472830ddbd86003ffbf83bcb709.jpg
