Our “tall” counter [Filler]

Standard bottom cabinets are ~34¾" high. Many years ago we replaced a desk that stood here with this custom-built cabinet, which is 40½" high. Neither of us ever sat at the desk. If Clare were working on a shopping list, she was constantly getting up to check the refrigerator or pantry. What she wanted was a counter where she could stand to write out a shopping list. The cabinet-maker was skeptical, but we love this taller cabinet. It has a matching upper cabinet with a shelf for cookbooks and a couple shallower shelves above for wine bottles. Perhaps I should photograph the pair.

Installation of this lower cabinet against the wall many years ago necessitated moving the phone jack to the higher location I'm now patching.

This cabinet had handles for all four drawers and both doors, so we will have to find a way to color the wood filler on the cabinet doors (the dots below the knobs in the photo) since we chose knobs-for-doors and handles-for-drawers throughout the new kitchen.

I like the idea. Makes sense to have what you need, not what folks say is "standard".
