Slots?

In our efforts to reclaim more/better use of our garage, I moved this beast of a drill press today. I noticed the slots and asked my brother-in-law about them. Apparently, in some applications, people would bolt them to the floor. I brought this home when Clare's mom moved out of the last house Dad lived in, so the drill press was his and is set for the lowest RPMs. Maybe at higher speeds vibrations become an issue.

I'm surprised I never posted a photo of the drill press. Just an artifact.
