Just like runners and cyclists, there is a sprint-to-the-finish for scullers, too. When you're trying to stretch the distance, you go until you're running out of lake. Then you have to “slam on the brakes”! That means squaring your oars in the water until those couple square feet of surface area stop the boat. That's the bubbly white line at the right. Those are the bubbles from the squared port oar doing half the work of stopping the boat (because the end of the lake is right behind me).
