The females come in two forms: a light form like this and a dark form, the latter of which makes it easy to ID those females. Four weeks ago, I posted a poor, ETSOOI’ed photo of a light Eastern Tiger Swallowtail. Comparing that one to this one, there is a distinct difference. The earlier post has a lot of “blue wash” near the edge of its hind wings; this post, not-so-much. I believe this is diagnostic: the earlier one with the blue wash is a female and this one is a male. A single specimen was captured by a boy at Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland in late September (or early October) 1932 and is believed to have been accidentally imported from North America.
